Eco-Camp in Georgia

In the period of July 7-16, 2014, ten schoolchildren from Lori marz participated in an eco-camp in the “Green Center” in Bulachauri, Georgia. The eco-camp was also attended by 10 schoolchildren from Georgia. During the ten days the children participated in lectures on the following topics: climate change, natural disasters, global warming, mapping, agriculture, waste recycling and biodiversity.
The eco-camp participants traveled to the Lomis Mountains, witnessed the consequences of landslides, visited the St. Gregory Church of Lomis, then had an opportunity to see the Kvesheti water basin, which supplies water to Tbilisi, and then they could marvel the Ananur Castle.
Each day the children had homework to do: after each lecture they studied the area and presented the results on a poster. On the last day each group briefly presented all their work in 5 minutes, as well as showed one performance. The eco-camp participants returned to Armenia with big impressions and stock of knowledge, which we hope will be put into practice in their communities.
The eco-camp was organized in the scope of the EU-funded “Enhancing Local Capacity and Regional Cooperation for CCA and Biodiversity Conservation in Georgia and the South Caucasus” project, which is implemented by organizations Green Lane, Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) and Mercy Corps.
